Grand Teton Mountain Range in Grey and Pink Morning Sunlight

As my 3 month cross-country journey in a 21 foot camper unfolded I’d sometimes wonder how I got so lucky. Not only was I fortunate to have time off for leisure travel but now I found myself in places like Grand Tetons National Park in Wyoming and had it (almost) all to myself!
My super secret travel tip to experience the natural beauty of the countryside in the US without the crowds? Hit the road in September! Not only was I able to photograph landscapes without humans, I never had to make a reservation for a campground– even at Yellowstone National Park.
One morning, while basking in the quiet & solitude of my deep woods campsite, in the darkness before dawn, I grabbed my camera, tripod & a travel mug full of coffee and set out for a walk.
You have to understand something – I’m an ocean girl and unfamiliar with mountainous regions so setting out on this walk, alone & in the dark with only a vague idea of which way to go in order to reach Jenny Lake for a sunrise photography session was a bit of a psychological challenge!
After a15 minuet walk in the brisk air filled with the scent of lodgepole pines the forest opened to a rock filled beach and there, across the lake, loomed the Grand Tetons bathed in beautiful pink & grey morning light.
I made several exposures at this glorious location but this is one of my favorites so you can imagine how delighted I was when the world-wide Photographic Society of America (PSA), awarded this image an Honorary Mention.
